The Creative Coaching Process

HOW I WORK

1.Evaluate

Initial Meeting

We’ll meet over a video call (or in-person if you’re local to Seattle) to get to know each other a little bit. I want to hear about your current creative endeavors to discover how best I can help you.

Come up with a plan & a process

Maybe you have a project deadline to meet, or you need someone to create structure around a new project for you. Maybe you need ongoing support, or maybe a short engagement fits best. We collaborate to define what our work together needs in order to thrive.

Create a little structure

We collaborate on what kinds of shared artifacts we want to create as part of our work together. We’ll set up a shared notes-taking doc, or a brainstorming board, or calendar reminders. This initial structure kicks things off and helps us microdose a little accountability.

2. Build

Establish structure

We start to add and adjust our structure as we work within it. We take a look at your core values - your “why” - I learn about your how you are personally motivated to create and help build little rituals and habits.

Check-ins

Most clients meet with me once a week for a 1:1 session. I start each session by asking “what needs attention today?” We check in and I guide you through any executive function challenges along the way.

New Habits

As your new habits start to become an integrated part of your life, we adjust, enhance or redirect based on where you’re at.

3. Reflection

Learn to love the work

If what you’re doing isn’t working, how can we change it or move on? We work on reflecting back on our process and the things we can and cannot control and make the choice to continue or move on. If you don’t love what you’re creating, we work to help you love it if that’s what you need.

Ship it!

Most creatives struggle with actually finishing something. I help you get hooked on finishing work by helping you find a place to put it. Whether it’s creating a print collection of visual art, launching a portfolio website or shipping a video game, there’s no feeling like finishing a project and moving on.

Archive it!

As you learn how to finish work, it’s important to be able to easily go back to reflect on it. I’ll help you build a structure that helps you know where you’ve been so you know where you’re going.

4. Rinse, Repeat

Iteration & Ongoing Support

Our time together doesn’t necessarily stop at a single project or a single habit formed - after you feel confident enough we’ll collaborate on what we can build on top of that new habit by going back to step 1.

Or, maybe we stop

Or, maybe we take a look at what you need and how far you’ve come and it doesn’t make sense for us to meet anymore. Maybe you feel like you’ve graduated. We take the time to check in to see.
